The jail that I am working as a corrections officer is perhaps the most dangerous in the country. The population of inmates who are affiliated with a gang inside this jail is so big that we have separated them by affiliation to keep the peace. Even with that, it only takes someone looking the wrong way or words being said for violence to erupt in seconds, and that puts my team, the inmates, and everyone behind those walls in harm’s way.
In order to curb violence, we have to work hard at keeping some of the things the gang members need out of their hands. At the top of the list is drugs and weapons, and despite our best efforts, these things are readily available because the inmates have developed some creative ways to get the items they want. Even when we do body searches at the visitor center of daily cell inspections, these gang members find the contraband they want.
Securus Technologies has been instrumental in helping us to get control of this problem. When Securus Technologies installed the new inmate call monitoring system, we put it to work that day. The CEO of the company, Richard Smith, says his systems are in over two thousand jails, and all his employees works towards the objective of making our world safer.
After me and my team learned how to use the LBS software, it was incredible how quickly it picked up on any chatter pertaining to drugs and weapons. Even though the gang members knew we were listening, they opening talked about what street members would make the trip to the jail, how they would smuggle in the drugs, and what places the items were hidden inside of. In weeks we have already cleaned up more of the contraband than all of last year combined.
Securus Technologies is a company that offers various solutions in the areas of criminal and civil justice. These are often used for monitoring, corrections, investigation and public safety. The company was recently awarded the Stevie Award in recognition of all the work they have done in terms of customer service training. This is the most prestigious award that a company can win regarding customer service. The Stevie Awards recognize the excellence of people working in the areas of sales, business development, contact center and customer service. Securus has long been thought to be one of the world’s leaders in terms of providing outstanding service to all of their clients. Winning the Stevie Award has only solidified that common belief.
The award ceremony was a very classy affair that was held in Las Vegas at Caesars Palace. Almost 700 top executives from different countries around the globe were in attendance. There were many companies in the running to win the coveted Stevie Award. Companies of varying sizes were all eligible to be nominated. There were over 2,000 nominations that were all carefully considered. This is 10 percent more nominations than there were last year. There were 77 people who served as judges for the competition. Their average scores decided who the finalists would eventually be.
A total of 60 categories were taken into consideration by the judges in the areas of achievement in call centers and customer service. Some examples of the awards that were handed out were given to the best consulting practice, the best customer service innovation and the best contact center. There were also awards given to the best business development achievement and the best senior sales executive. The awards have become a great way of recognizing the important role that customer service plays in the business world.
In the recent past, Securus, which is a leading company in the provision of technological solutions for the inmates and the justice system has been engaged in a legal tussle with GTL Technology. The issues started with GTL claiming that Securus had used some of their patented technology against their agreement. The issue has been in the courts for a while now, even though the court has on several occasions made rulings in favor of Securus. Securus technologies had attempted to have the matters settled out of court, but GTL insisted on an in-court settlement.
Recently, Securus has decided to reach out to GTL again and offer them an opportunity to participate in a technology bake off. This follows the claims that GTL has made, stating that their technology and their customer service was at par, if not better than that of Securus. The executive director, Rick Smith, stated that he wanted an independent judge to weigh the services that the two companies were providing before getting a winner.
He stated that it was unfair to state that GTL was at par with them, especially because they had spent the past four years growing their company and in the process, they had invested more than $700 million back to the business. He stated that Securus was the better company because:
- They had a better set of products for the criminal and justice systems.
- They had a local center to handle customer complaints and related issues on the other hand, they knew that GTL was outsourcing a great deal of their customer service.
- Securus had field technicians under their payroll while GTL had contracted people to handle the job.
He stated that through an event such as the bake off, it would be possible to determine the best man for the job or providing telecom services to the criminal justice system.
